I realized today that it has been a while since I have posted anything on our blog. Chad and I had an uneventful Christmas as we were trapped in Kirkland due to the snow everywhere. Who am I kidding though...we had a great few days together just the two of us and although we weren't going to get anything for each other for Christmas, Chad managed to find something for me (us). Individually wrapped in order....a block of cheese, a package of sliced ham, a loaf of bread...and a sandwich maker. There is a story to our sandwich maker....Our first year of marriage we had very little and we lived off of our sandwhich maker. We also became very inventive in our sandwich making capabilities, but more often than not we would stick to the standard of hot ham and cheese. When we moved to Kirkland we were both very excited for our new surroundings and in celebration of the change we began to prepare a lovely hot ham and cheese sandwich dinner with our sandwich maker. At times we would be over zealous on the "stuffings" of our sandwiches and this particular dinner happened to be one of those moments. As I was closing the sandwich maker with one hand and trying to push the "stuffings" back in the sandwiches with my other hand (without getting burned), I heard a sudden and loud cracking, popping noise. Chad came running into the kitchen frantically making sure that I was okay, but as I stood there in dismay wondering what had happened we both looked towards the sandwich maker and saw it in two separate pieces. The hinge on the sandwich maker had broken leaving us both very sad...and without a hot ham and cheese sandwich (they taste much different in the sandwhich maker than they do over the stove). The following years we would always joke and talk about the sandwich maker as it were a part of our family. We also looked for a new sandwich maker on many occasions, but none were quite like our little sandwich maker. As time went on the sandwich maker slowly phased out of popularity (if they ever were popular) and something more sophisticated came along...the pannini press. This of course did not interest us at all. So, with great excitement and through much laughter, this Christmas Chad got me, or us, a
sandwich maker.

I LOVE the picture of you laughing! Makes me remember how much fun we always had together...I miss you tons girly! :)
We use the sandwich maker all summer long! In fact, my kids get it out during all their school vacations. I agree - they taste so much better than the stovetop method.
I have a love affair with whole wheat tortillas now, and I'm not allowed to eat 2 slices of bread anymore:(, so I use my George Forman to do myself a crispy wrap.
I'm drooling over the thought of ham and cheese toasties though (with a cuppa)!
